Labrador Tokyo Rescued from Ben Nevis After Ingesting Cannabis, As Reported by Christina Bluhme

A black Labrador retriever, Tokyo, made a full recovery after becoming critically ill from ingesting suspected cannabis while hiking Ben Nevis in Scotland. Tokyo’s owner, Christina Bluhme, recounted the frightening ordeal which required professional rescue efforts. Bluhme stated that the five-year-old dog collapsed several hours into the climb. Initially, veterinary staff suspected a spinal issue, but testing confirmed the symptoms pointed to neurotoxicity from ingested toxins. The critical incident necessitated the aid of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, whose volunteers were vital in safely carrying the distressed dog down the mountain. Veterinarians treated Tokyo with activated charcoal and stabilizing care. Bluhme emphasized that the experience served as a stark reminder to dog owners about potential hazards in natural areas. She advised that discarded drugs and toxic substances can be found even in beautiful outdoor environments. The successful recovery of Tokyo underscores the necessary training and dedication provided by rescue personnel and veterinary science.
