Governor Gavin Newsom Secures Federal Funding to Combat the Dove Fire in Tuolumne County
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to aid in the response to the Dove Fire. The grant provides a 75% reimbursement for eligible fire suppression costs, ensuring that local, state, and tribal agencies have the resources necessary to protect communities. The Dove Fire, which began on Sunday afternoon in Tuolumne County, has burned over 223 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations for over 600 homes. Firefighters are currently making good progress against the flames, which are holding within retardant lines despite a moderate rate of spread. Local authorities have established evacuation warnings for an additional 1,400 homes. To support the response, 225 personnel are assigned to the fire, including engines, dozers, and water tenders. Animal evacuation centers have been set up in Jamestown to accommodate pets and livestock for residents fleeing the fire.
