Carroll Receives Court-Ordered Funds Following Donald Trump’s Civil Liability Verdict.

E. Jean Carroll has successfully received millions of dollars awarded in a 2023 civil trial that found Donald Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The payment, which included interest, was released after the Supreme Court declined to hear Trump’s appeal regarding the original verdict. The federal jury had initially awarded Carroll $5 million in damages. Carroll first publicly alleged that Donald Trump had sexually assaulted her decades prior, leading to the lawsuit. During the 2023 trial, the jury found Trump liable for the alleged abuse and defamation. The disbursement of funds was complicated by the legal appeals mounted by Donald Trump's legal team, who sought to delay payment. However, after the Supreme Court ruled on the appeal, the funds were released from a court-controlled account. The dispute remains active over a separate defamation lawsuit, in which a different federal jury had awarded Carroll an additional $83 million. That larger amount is also subject to ongoing legal appeals by Donald Trump.
