The Grasshopper Fire has prompted a Level 3 "Go Now" evacuation for Mt. Hood Meadows, forcing the ski resort to suspend all operations. Greg Pack, President of Mt. Hood Meadows, reported that easterly winds have caused the fire to advance more rapidly than anticipated, leading to the preparation of water containers and fire pumps to protect the property. Simultaneously, John Burton, the director of marketing and public affairs for Timberline Lodge, confirmed that the lodge remains under a Level 1 "Be Ready" evacuation notice. While mountain operations are closed, the historic hotel remains open for now, though Burton noted that guests are proactively leaving due to deteriorating air quality. The fire has burned approximately 34,700 acres and is 19% contained. Firefighters are working to establish defensible space around the resorts, with officials urging the public to stay away from the area to allow fire crews to work efficiently. Highway 35 remains open, but travelers are encouraged to monitor conditions as winds and fire activity may change rapidly.
