Greg Pack and Mt. Hood Meadows Resort Face Level 3 Evacuation as Grasshopper Fire Advances
Mt. Hood Meadows President Greg Pack confirmed that the ski resort is under a Level 3 "Go Now" evacuation order due to the rapid westward advance of the Grasshopper Fire. The lightning-caused fire has burned approximately 34,700 acres and remains 19 percent contained as of Tuesday morning. While the resort has suspended all operations, fire managers noted that the surrounding defensible space allows crews to work on strengthening fire lines to protect the property. Nearby, Timberline Lodge remains under a Level 1 "Be Ready" notice, though mountain operations are closed. John Burton, the director of marketing and public affairs for Timberline, stated that the resort is hoping for a shift to westerly winds to push the fire toward the desert. Meanwhile, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Hood River County Sheriff’s Office have issued evacuation notices for the Mount Hood Corridor and surrounding areas. Officials are urging the public to stay away from the resort area to allow fire personnel to work efficiently.
