eBay and several former executives have reached a $56 million settlement with David Steiner and Ina Steiner following a bizarre and relentless harassment campaign in 2019. The couple, who ran a newsletter critical of the e-commerce firm, were targeted by employees who sent them items such as a bloody pig mask and cockroaches. Seven former eBay workers pleaded guilty to criminal charges for the stalking, while the company itself agreed to a $3 million fine. As part of the settlement, eBay will pay the couple $46.15 million and contribute $6 million to various non-profit organizations. Former CEO Devin Wenig, who was not criminally charged, will personally contribute $3 million to the settlement, including a $1 million donation to a charity dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights. The Steiners' attorney, Christopher Murphy, stated that the resolution sends a clear message that corporations cannot engage in misconduct without facing consequences. eBay expressed regret for the unprofessional tone of internal communications and the conduct of the former employees.
