Adam O’Neal to depart as opinion editor for The Washington Post after one year of leadership.
Adam O’Neal will leave his role as the opinion editor for The Washington Post on August 31. The 33-year-old journalist, who joined the publication last year to lead a major reorientation of the opinion section, gave no specific reason for his departure in a memo to his colleagues. Under the leadership of Adam O’Neal, the opinion section has focused on championing free markets and personal liberties, a move initiated by owner Jeff Bezos. While the section saw significant growth in pageviews and time spent on site by users, the shift toward a specific ideological focus was met with some criticism from veteran journalists. Interim publisher Jeff D’Onofrio thanked O’Neal for his work in making the section more balanced and financially sustainable. The publication has not yet named a successor to O’Neal.
