Archer Aviation CEO Adam Goldstein unveils the Thunder hybrid aircraft to expand the company into the defense and commercial aviation markets.
Archer Aviation CEO Adam Goldstein revealed the Thunder hybrid vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, co-developed with the defense technology company Anduril. The new platform is designed for both military and commercial use, featuring a series hybrid powertrain to provide longer range than fully electric models. The administration announced a new eVTOL pilot program across 26 states to help accelerate the deployment of these aircraft. Goldstein stated that the defense applications for Thunder could transform the company into a diversified aviation and defense firm rather than just an air taxi provider. The aircraft is intended to be a fully autonomous rotorcraft capable of flying alongside crewed military planes. Meanwhile, the company remains committed to its commercial goal of launching the Midnight air taxi in Los Angeles before the 2028 Olympics. Following the debut of the Thunder platform, Archer Aviation shares rallied nearly 20% as retail investor sentiment turned extremely bullish.
