Jonathan Hamby Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of 29-Year-Old Man on the Atlanta Beltline

Jonathan Hamby, a 54-year-old convicted felon, was arrested following a fatal stabbing on the Atlanta Beltline near Ponce City Market on Sunday afternoon. Police responded to the scene at 725 Ponce De Leon Avenue around 4:00 p.m. and found a 29-year-old man who had been stabbed in the neck. The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated that the stabbing resulted from a verbal argument that quickly escalated into violence. Records indicate that Jonathan Hamby has an extensive criminal history, including over 30 previous arrest cycles and a and history of mental health issues. He was on active probation for an aggravated assault at the time of the incident. Mayor Andre Dickens has requested a review of safety protocols, including patrols and camera coverage, to ensure the safety of the Beltline. Police Chief Schierbaum confirmed there is no remaining threat to the surrounding community.
