Eight construction workers in Belgium discovered gold coins and bars worth $10.5 million during a renovation project in the city of Dendermonde. The discovery occurred last Tuesday while the crew was performing drilling operations on a building located approximately 19 miles northwest of Brussels. Patrick Feys, Chief of the Dendermonde Police District, reported that the drill bit became stuck, revealing a gold bar. The workers notified the property owner, who subsequently contacted the police. To prevent future disputes, the police conducted a careful inventory of the gold under camera surveillance before sealing it. An investigation is currently underway to determine the legal ownership of the gold and how it was placed there. Feys expressed hope that the gold will eventually be used to fund a worthy cause following the conclusion of legal proceedings.
