Anthony Angeles Died Following Collision Between Georgia State Patrol Vehicle and Pickup Truck During Stunt Driving Response

A 19-year-old man, Anthony Angeles, died after a Georgia State Patrol vehicle collided with a GMC pickup truck in DeKalb County on Monday morning. The crash occurred while troopers were responding to reports of illegal stunt driving involving multiple vehicles that had been moving between locations throughout the night. While several vehicles fled the scene, a Crime Suppression Unit K-9 trooper traveling through the intersection of Mountain Industrial Boulevard and Hugh Howell Road collided with the pickup truck. Both vehicles caught fire, and the trooper and his K-9 escaped through a window to assist the passengers. Anthony Angeles, who was a passenger in the pickup, died at the hospital, while the driver, 20-year-old Emilio DeJesus, survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The Georgia State Patrol stated that illegal stunt driving and the deliberate blocking of public roads can put everyone in danger. The agency has placed the involved trooper on administrative leave while the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and the Office of Professional Standards conduct investigations into the crash dynamics and the trooper's actions.
