The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) provided the initial alert regarding the incident, noting that the impact caused significant damage to the engine room. Established in 2001, the UKMTO is a British Royal Navy-sponsored organization that serves as a primary point of contact for commercial vessels and military forces in the region. The organization manages a lean team of 15 civilian watch-keepers who coordinate rescue responses and issue security warnings across a vast maritime area including the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. While the UKMTO cannot guarantee total safety, it serves as a trusted authority for verifying and corroborating security information to maintain the freedom of navigation for all vessels.
