Normal Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday afternoon on the Uptown roundabout outside the Children's Discovery Museum. The incident involved a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Beaufort Street that left the roadway, struck a pedestrian, and hit the corner of the museum building. Matt Swaney, the Normal Fire Department’s public information officer, reported that five people were injured in the total crash, including three passengers and one pedestrian. Two of the victims were transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck remains in critical but stable condition, while the other three victims are reported to be in stable condition. Preliminary evidence suggests the driver may have experienced a medical event. The Children's Discovery Museum was closed Friday due to a power outage, which spared many children who would typically be in the area. Officials stated the building remains structurally sound and is scheduled to reopen on Saturday. The crash investigation continues with the help of the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team.
