The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority approved a $19.9 billion redevelopment plan for Washington Dulles International Airport.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority unanimously approved a $19.9 billion capital program to overhaul and modernize Washington Dulles International Airport. The project aims to improve safety, efficiency, and the passenger experience to establish the airport as a world-class gateway to the nation's capital. Keith Autry, the vice-president of engineering and Dulles Capital Programs at MWAA, stated that the iconic mobile lounges will remain in service until the mid-2030s. These vehicles will be retired only after the completion of critical infrastructure, including a new connector building and an extension of the underground AeroTrain. Jack Potter, president of MWAA, noted that the redevelopment will improve the airport's ability to compete with other major hubs. Work on the first phase of the project, a 14-gate section of Concourse E, is scheduled for completion in September and will open before the year's end. The authority is also seeking bids for a $6.5 billion contract to redevelop the Saarinen terminal and expand several concourses.
