Asani Restaurant Group LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to reorganize its business and restructure debt.
Asani Restaurant Group LLC, the owner of the Buttermilk Eatery chain, filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida on August 31. The filing lists assets exceeding $75,000 against debts of more than $407,000. The company, founded in January 2023, operates two locations in the St. Petersburg area, featuring online ordering and robot food runners. This bankruptcy filing occurs amid ongoing litigation from creditor MGM Investment Properties Inc., which sued Asani Restaurant Group LLC on January 8, 2026, seeking payment for kitchen equipment provided in November 2022. The litigation is currently subject to an automatic stay while the bankruptcy case proceeds. The filing follows a broader trend of financial strain in the breakfast and brunch sector, where other chains such as Sarabeth's and Breakfast Republic have closed locations to reduce costs. Additionally, a St. Petersburg-based franchisee of Village Inn filed for Chapter 11 protection in June for three Florida locations, citing declining revenue over the past two years.
