Bradley Alvelo Launches New York City's Smallest Pizzeria Operating Out of a Customized Smart Car
Bradley Alvelo, a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, has launched Pizza Pod, a mobile pizzeria that operates out of a bright green Smart car. The business, which Alvelo describes as New York City's smallest pizzeria, features two pizza ovens powered by a generator and a custom shelving unit for boxes and ingredients. Alvelo, a Bronx native with 20 years of professional cooking experience, transitioned from corporate dining for the NFL and the New York Stock Exchange to own his own business. He prepares 12-inch stone-fired pizzas, including varieties like truffle and mushroom and a guava pepperoni pie that reflects his Puerto Rican heritage. The mobile setup relies on partnerships with local businesses for off-site dough fermentation. Pizza Pod has generated approximately $24,000 in gross revenue from card payments since March, with cash sales estimated to account for 65% of total revenue. Alvelo manages most aspects of the communication, from cooking to accounting, while providing a fresh, personal connection with customers on the sidewalk.
