At least five people were killed and five others were injured when an Amazon cargo plane overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday. The Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air, departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and struck multiple vehicles and caught fire while attempting to land. Rescue crews arrived within seconds of the crash, finding the aircraft engulfed in heavy flames and smoke. Firefighters used specialized foam to extinguish a complex engine compartment fire and worked to mitigate a fuel leak. Several victims were trapped in the vehicles struck by the plane, with some requiring technical rescue personnel to be extricated. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated that the focus remains on the families and the ongoing response. Fire Chief Raied Jadallah confirmed that three of the injured were in critical condition. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash, with a news conference scheduled for Monday. Amazon expressed its sympathies for the victims and stated it would cooperate fully with the investigation.
