President Abelardo de la Espriella reports seven members of the Franco Benavides front died in NariƱo military operation
President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed that seven members of the Franco Benavides front, a dissident faction of the FARC, died during military operations in the NariƱo department. The operation took place in rural El PeƱol and involved the coordination of the National Police, Army, and Air Force. In addition to the seven deaths, five people were captured and twelve others were wounded during the action. Authorities confiscated a variety of weapons, including an M4 rifle, a pistol, several providers, and eight homemade grenades. The military also recovered five banners and three notebooks for investigation. The operation was directed against the mobile column Freddy GutiƩrrez, which is part of the self-declared Central Command. President Abelardo de la Espriella also reported the results of a broader campaign against illegal economies. Since August 7th, there have been 14,914 arrests and 49,379 kilograms of illicit substances confiscated. The administration also reported the intervention of seven production units and seven dredges in the mining sector.
