Elizabeth L. Hillman Unveils New 9/11 Exhibition to Preserve History for Younger Generations

Elizabeth L. Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, announced a new exhibition titled "In Their Honor: 25 Years of 9/11 Inspired Service." The exhibition, opening on September 12, highlights how the terrorist attacks inspired thousands of Americans to serve their communities and country. It features artifacts, interactive displays, and firsthand accounts from military members, first responders, and victims' families. To reach younger generations who did not witness the attacks, Hillman said the museum is tailoring educational resources by age. The exhibition includes a signature artifact, a 15-foot papier-mâché sculpture created by children who lost loved ones on 9/11. The museum also offers a free digital learning experience featuring personal stories, such as those of brothers James and Patrick Dowdell, whose father was killed responding to the attacks.\n The museum is also preparing for the 25th anniversary of the attacks. On September 11, the official commemoration ceremony will take place on the Memorial plaza, featuring an in-person reading of the names of victims from the 2001 and 1993 attacks. For the first time, an additional moment of silence will be observed to remember those who died from 9/11-related illnesses or injuries.
