Judge Suspends Charges Against Jeanine John Taele After Mental Health Evaluation

Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr. suspended criminal proceedings against Jeanine John Taele, a former U.S. Marine, after a pretrial evaluation determined he was not mentally fit to stand trial. Taele was arrested on August 2 at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, just before a visit by President Trump. During the arrest, Taele was observed wearing an earpiece and taking photographs of the course. Investigators discovered a loaded 9mm pistol in his vehicle and a 16-round magazine of hollow-point ammunition in his pants. Additionally, authorities recovered over 200 pages of writings from Taele, which included schedules for Melania Trump and the Secret Service. Judge John Lonergan Jr. expressed concern over the potential for violence in the current political environment. Taele, who served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, will remain in jail until a September 9 hearing at the Hollywood Mental Health Court. His attorney, A.J. Bayne, noted that it is too early to determine how Taele's mental health will impact his legal defense.
