President Abelardo de la Espriella leads national prayer event in Bogota to honor earthquake victims
President Abelardo de la Espriella organized a major public prayer event in Bogota's Plaza de Bolivar to honor the victims of the August 10th earthquake. The event, titled 'Oración por Colombia,' served as a day of solidarity for families and communities affected by the 7.4-magnitude disaster. During the ceremony, President Abelardo de la Espriella crowned a statue of the Virgin of Fatima, reflecting his personal conversion to Catholicism. While the administration invited various religious leaders and pop singers from the International Charismatic Mission to the podium, the event also received support from the Colombian Episcopal Conference. First Lady Ana Lucía Pineda expressed gratitude for the and international support received during the reconstruction process. Additionally, the Government of the Valley of Cauca, led by Governor Dilian Francisca Toro, honored the 22 victims of the Vanessa building collapse and recognized the 30 rescuers who worked tirelessly during the emergency.
