Abelardo de la Espriella orders the extradition of five criminal leaders to the United States

President Abelardo de la Espriella has ordered the effective delivery of five criminal leaders to the United States to combat narcotics trafficking. The leaders include Willington Henao Gutiérrez, Carmen Evelio Castillo Carrillo, and Geovany Andrés Rojas, who are currently in custody, along with fugitives Gabriel Yepes Mejía and Fredy Castillo Carrillo. While the previous administration under Gustavo Petro had suspended these extraditions to facilitate peace negotiations, the administration announced that the new government is prioritizing the crackdown on crime. President Abelardo de la Espriella, an admirer of Donald Trump, is working closely with the ally to crush illicit groups. The criminals are accused of various crimes including narcotrafficking, money laundering, and narcoterrorism. Geovany Andrés Rojas, for example, was linked to a shipment of 1,500 kilograms of cocaine to Mexico. The administration announced that these moves align with a more aggressive stance against organized crime compared to the previous government's focus on peace dialogues.
