A Louisiana judge ruled that Dae™Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris can return to college football after having signed and practiced with NFL teams. The ruling grants the two players a fifth year of eligibility, allowing them to return to LSU despite having already left school. Ryan Downton, an attorney representing the athletes, stated there is no exclusion in the NCAA rulebook to keep these athletes off the court and off the field simply because they are in their fifth year. Zxavian Harris noted that the decision allowed him to turn a new leaf after an injury. The SEC is currently appealing the decision, as the conference had previously drafted rules and penalties for schools if professional players returned to campus. This ruling occurs as Congress considers the Protect College Sports Act, a federal bill with bipartisan backing in the Senate. The bill aims to establish uniform rules and would specifically ban athletes who have earned money professionally from returning to school. Senator Ted Cruz, a sponsor of the bill, stated that once an athlete turns pro, they should not be allowed to return to college play.
