Three men go on trial in Mexico for the alleged murders of Australian brothers Jake Robinson and Callum Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad

Three men are on trial in Mexico's Baja California state for the alleged murders of Australian brothers Jake Robinson and Callum Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad. The victims were shot dead in April 2024 during a surfing trip while camping at a remote beach. Prosecutors allege the three were killed during a bungled robbery attempt to steal their pickup truck, which was later found burned near their bodies. The bodies were found dumped in a cliff-top shaft several days after the men went missing. JesĂșs Gerardo, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel JesĂșs are the defendants charged with aggravated homicide, robbery, and auto theft. The prosecution is seeking jail sentences of more than 200 years for each man. Ari Gisell Silva, the former girlfriend of JesĂșs Gerardo, was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison for instigating the robbery. During the trial, Martin Robinson and Debra Robinson testified about the loss of their sons, while Page Rhoad testified about her son. The United States FBI was also revealed to have cooperated with Mexican authorities on the case. The trial is expected to be a judge-only proceeding lasting more than four weeks.
