Hurricane Marie causes port closures and heavy rainfall across Baja California Sur

Hurricane Marie, a category 1 storm, is currently located 660 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas and is moving west-northwest at 17 kilometers per hour. The storm is producing sustained winds of 150 km/h and gusts up to 185 km/h, generating intense rainfall, strong winds, and elevated sea levels across the Baja California Sur peninsula. Authorities in Baja California Sur have closed five ports as a preventive measure against risks to maritime, tourism, and riverside activities. The heavy rains have caused flooding, waterlogging, and stranded vehicles, particularly in the Los Cabos municipality. In response, classes were suspended for all educational levels in Los Cabos and Ciudad Constitucion on Thursday. The storm's circulation also affects other regions, producing waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters along the coasts of Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacan. In La Paz, officials recommended avoiding the urban beaches from El Conchalito to El Caimancito for four days due to current drag. The Mexican Army and the National Guard activated the Plan DN-III-E to clear roads and assist stranded vehicles in La Paz and Comondu.
