Herberth Olaya warns of high vulnerability in the Cauca River dike following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake.

Herberth Olaya, a specialist at the CVC, reported that the 44-kilometer protection dike of the Cauca River faces high vulnerability after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. The inspection, conducted in conjunction with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, identified critical points requiring special attention due to a lack of reinforcement. While the structure remains largely intact, Alejandra G贸mez, a civil engineer, noted a small crack on the dike crown at the Paso del Comercio bridge that requires sealing. Marco Antonio Su谩rez Guti茅rrez, the director general of CVC, stated that the structure withstood the vibrations well, highlighting the effectiveness of the static and dynamic reinforcements used in the source of the construction. The dike protects the east side of the city from floods and secures the agricultural pantry and safety of 6,000 families. Experts noted that while the structure is stable, rubble and excavations are still occurring in some areas, necessitating ongoing monitoring to ensure long.term protection.
