President Abelardo De la Espriella ordered the transfer of 20 high-profile inmates from Barranquilla prisons to Bogotá to curb criminal activities managed from behind bars. The move aims to eliminate the 'comfort zones' of gang leaders who continue to coordinate extortions and narcotics trafficking from their cells. Among those transferred are leaders from the 'los Pepes' and 'los Costeños' gangs, including Rodrigo Javier Pantoja Linero, Brayan Camilo Lobo Guerrero, and Fabio Andrés Diazgranados Pallares. The administration announced that the inmates will be distributed to various high-security prisons across the country over the next 15 days. This action follows a security council meeting where local leaders, including Mayor Alejandro Char and Governor Eduardo Verano, praised the president's decisive move to disconnect criminals from the outside world. To further strengthen prison management, the Ministry of Justice announced a 'hard-handed' approach to penitentiary treatment. Minister Iván Cancino González also highlighted a new maritime high-security model to isolate high-risk prisoners and cut off their ability to issue criminal orders from their cells.
