He noted that public distrust is a long-standing issue with corporations and technology in general, rather than being caused solely by his own warnings. Amodei emphasized that claiming AI will cure cancer is currently a cliché, and the industry must actually achieve such a milestone to change public opinion. He highlighted the potential for AI to accelerate biological research, potentially compressing decades of medical progress into just a few years. To address this, Anthropic has launched an AI for Science programme to help researchers in biology and drug discovery. Amodei argued that while AI can significantly speed up the rate of biological discoveries, it remains a long-term vision that requires laboratory infrastructure and clinical trials to be realized.
