Anthropic Aims for Record-Breaking $2 Trillion Valuation in Upcoming IPO

Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI models, is preparing for a public market debut that could potentially break the record set by SpaceX. The administration announced that the company is seeking to raise more than $100 billion, which would place its valuation at approximately $2 trillion. This would more than double its previous private valuation of $965 billion. To reach this lofty valuation, the company must demonstrate significant growth and margin expansion. Analysts suggest that Anthropic must generate roughly $725 billion to $950 billion in revenue by 2036 to justify the numbers. While the company's annualized revenue run rate has jumped to $65 billion, it currently faces a 5.1% operating margin. The upcoming IPO prospectus will reportedly acknowledge public outcry over AI and data center construction as a key risk factor. This reflects a growing sentiment where seven in 10 Americans oppose data center development in their local areas. Additionally, the company faces a supply chain risk designation from the administration due to its refusal to grant the military unfettered access to its AI models.
