Anthropic signs $45 billion compute lease with Nscale to secure Nvidia Vera Rubin chip capacity for 2027

Anthropic has secured a major computing agreement to rent $45 billion worth of AI compute capacity from Nscale over a six-year period. The infrastructure company will provide the power via Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips, which are considered the cutting edge of chip design. This capacity is expected to start powering the services of the AI lab in late 2027 from Nscale’s flagship data center in West Virginia. This move demonstrates Anthropic's strategy of vendor diversification. While the company recently signed a $5 billion deal with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. to secure Instinct MI450 capacity, it remains committed to securing Nvidia's next-generation platform. By securing these resources now, Anthropic is hedging against potential capacity constraints as it projects significant revenue growth in 2028. The deal follows a other series of partnerships with companies like SpaceX, Amazon, and Google to ensure the company remains competitive against rivals like OpenAI.
