Juan Jesus M. was arrested for his probable involvement in crimes of violence and aggravated rape at a military academy.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Justice in Tamaulipas arrested Juan Jesus M. for his probable involvement in crimes of violence against family members and aggravated rape against an adolescent. The arrest occurred in Altamira and follows a request from the Specialized Prosecutor for Crimes against Children, Adolescents and Women in Reason of Gender (FENNAM). Juan Jesus M. is the brother of Estrellita Mora Díaz, who is a primary suspect in the femicide of 13-year-old Dafne Zapata Quintos. The teenager allegedly died at the Marina Doenitz Military Academy in Ciudad Madero after fainting while bathing. Her mother, Alejandra Quintos, claimed the girl was tortured for four days before her death. The case has led to a scandal regarding militarized schools for basic education. The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) ordered the closure of all such schools by August 31st, as they are not officially authorized by law. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) by clarifying that the academy was not dependent on the military branch.
