Timothy Allen Smith remains missing after flash flood kills two friends in Grand Canyon

A catastrophic flash flood in the Grand Canyon on Saturday left two hikers dead and one still missing. Timothy Allen Smith, a 53-year-old pilot from Wyoming, is the only hiker unaccounted for after the storm swept through Bright Angel Creek. His friends, John Giusti and Brent Rosenkranz, were both killed in the flood and their bodies were were recovered by park rangers on Sunday and Monday. The storm unleashed a powerful stream of mud, debris, and water that uprooted trees, decimated trails, and destroyed footbridges. More than 80 people were evacuated from the area, including some who were airlifted to the South Rim. The National Park Service is currently conducting cleanup and repair work on the damaged water supply system and a new pipeline project. Search and rescue teams, including a specialized Border Patrol unit, continue to search for Timothy Allen Smith. Park officials are investigating the cause of the flood and have requested information from the public to assist in the search.
