Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to President Trump. The decision follows months of friction with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who has reportedly been distrustful of the loyalty of his subordinates. Driscoll, who was second in line to Hegseth, noted concerns regarding Army transformation and readiness, specifically citing Hegseth's decision to fire the generals responsible for those efforts. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly stated that Driscoll was highly effective in advancing the administration's agenda to Make America Strong Again by providing leadership during military operations and assisting in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Driscoll, an Iraq war veteran and former adviser to JD Vance, was confirmed by the Senate in February 2025. His departure follows a period of turmoil at the Department of Defense, which included the ousting of several senior officials, such as Army chief of staff Randy George. Driscoll and George were close allies. The administration announced that Mike Obadal will serve as the acting secretary until a successor is named.
