Elizabeth Kiker and Alex Rosen lead protesters at East Potomac Park to oppose the administration's proposed golf course renovation

The administration announced plans to renovate the East Potomac Golf Links on Hains Point into a championship course, a move that has drawn significant public opposition. Elizabeth Kiker, executive director of the Washington Area Bicycle Association, and Alex Rosen, founder of Save East Po, led a rally of hundreds of people on Saturday to protest the project. Protesters expressed concern that the renovation would shrink the available public recreational space. While the administration stated that the removal of approximately 60 trees has been routine maintenance to address hazard and invasive species, Kiker noted that many of the trees appeared healthy. The administration has yet to provide specific construction plans or maps of the trees slated for removal. A lawsuit filed by the D.C. Preservation League to halt the renovations is currently at a standstill. Despite the administration's goal to begin construction on September 1, the community continues to protest the lack of transparency regarding the final design of the luxury golf course.
