Zimbabwean authorities report a death toll of at least 92 people following a ferry capsizing on Lake Kariba.

Zimbabwean police have confirmed that the death toll from a ferry disaster on Lake Kariba has risen to at least 92 people. The aging vessel capsized on Tuesday due to strong waves and high winds, traveling from the town of Kariba to rural and fishing communities in the northwest. While the ferry was authorized to carry 90 people, it was reportedly overloaded with as many as 153 passengers and crew. The disaster is believed to be the deadliest of its kind in Zimbabwe's history. Search efforts are ongoing, with four boats and more than 40 divers deployed to recover the remaining victims. Among the deceased are 18 children, with 16 of them aged 10 or younger. President Emmerson Mnangowsky described the tragedy as a way to expose serious deficiencies in the country's infrastructure that need immediate attention.
