Omar García Harfuch reports two federal agents killed and one injured during an armed attack in Veracruz
Omar García Harfuch, the head of the Secretariat of Security and Civil Protection (SSPC), reported that two federal agents were killed and one was injured during an armed attack by organized crime in the municipality of Omealca, Veracruz. The attack occurred while the agents were conducting investigation work on a kidnapping. During the engagement, a fourth officer was temporarily lost but was later located in good health. The SSPC stated that despite the casualties, the operation continued and two kidnapping victims were successfully released. The head of the dependency expressed condolences to the families of the deceased agents and stated that a deployment was made to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. The operation involved coordination between the SSPC, the Secretariat of Defense, the Navy, the National Guard, and the security authorities of Veracruz and Oaxaca. Authorities located two trucks related to the aggression, which contained indications linked to a criminal cell dedicated to kidnapping and extortion. Veracruz currently ranks third nationally for the number of kidnappings.
