President Abelardo de la Espriella visited several western departments to assess the impact of a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that has left over 100,000 people affected and nearly 300 fatalities. During his tour, President Abelardo de la Espriella visited the municipality of El Cairo, which had not hosted a presidential visit since 1970, and the city of Buenaventura. In Buenaventura, the administration announced a focus on addressing the human crisis and the health system, with Minister of Health Ana Maria Vesga also present in the territory. Minister of Interior Rodrigo Lara reported that the city of Pereira remains under maximum alert with search and rescue operations ongoing. Vice President Jose Manuel Restrepo highlighted the loss of homes in La Virginia, Risaralda, and emphasized the government's commitment to a coordinated recovery. While the administration announced a strategy for containment, lawmakers from the Center Democratic party proposed a dedicated manager to lead the reconstruction efforts. The government continues to coordinate with local authorities to ensure families receive necessary aid and move forward with the recovery process.
