Vladimir Teslov Charged with Foreign Interference for Allegedly Passing Ukrainian Military Intelligence to Russia

Australian authorities have charged Vladimir Teslov, a 27-year-old dual Russian-Australian citizen, with foreign interference for allegedly attempting to relay Ukrainian military intelligence to Russian security services. The suspect reportedly traveled to Russia in October 2024 for military-style training before returning to Australia and eventually enlisting in the Ukrainian military in March 2025. During his service in Ukraine, Vladimir Teslov allegedly gained access to critical information regarding military personnel, units, and locations, which he then attempted to provide to individuals he believed were acting on behalf of Russian intelligence. Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett stated that this conduct created a risk to the safety of Ukrainian military staff. The investigation, conducted by the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, aims to deter other nations from using Australia as a safe haven for foreign interference. The case is currently before the Brisbane Magistrates Court, where the charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment.
