The outbreak has sickened over 24,000 people and caused at least two deaths. While the company's lettuce supplied Taco Bell and Walmart, the administration announced that the FDA would delay enforcing the Food Traceability Rule for 30 months to allow industry more time to implement requirements. This regulatory delay occurred just six days before Taylor Farms' parent company, Taylor Fresh Foods, Inc., donated $1 million to the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. Critics have suggested that this donation may have influenced the administration's decision to postpone the traceability rule. However, both Taylor Farms and the administration dismissed these claims as false, stating that decisions are based on science and safety. Despite the political ties, the administration maintained that the FDA has not walked back any epidemiological evidence pointing to the lettuce as the source of the contamination.
