Pamela Cisneros fatally stabbed 32-year-old Erin Piacenti in a random Times Square attack before being shot by police

A 39-year-old woman from Queens, Pamela Cisneros, was shot and killed by police after she fatally stabbed 32-year-old Erin Piacenti in Times Square on Monday. Piacenti, a vice president at Bank of America, was returning from maternity leave and was in her first week back at work when she was stabbed in the abdomen. The other victim, a 68-year-old man from Rhode Island, was also stabbed in the abdomen and remains in critical but stable condition. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the attack was random and unprovoked. Cisneros pulled two knives from a bag and stabbed the 68-year-old man as he exited the subway. Within 20 seconds, she moved to 42nd Street and stabbed Piacenti. Cisneros then fled toward an NYPD substation, where she refused to drop her knives for four minutes, telling officers she would rather kill them. After being tased twice and failing to refuse to drop the weapons, officers discharged their service weapons, striking her. Cisneros had a documented history of mental health issues. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that the NYPD will conduct an internal investigation and release body-worn camera footage.
