Vladimir Putin orders large-scale strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities following drone attacks on Russian oil hubs

Vladimir Putin has ordered his military to prepare and launch large-scale strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities in response to recent drone attacks on Russian infrastructure. These strikes follow a series of Ukrainian drone assaults that have impacted Russia's energy sector, including a major fire at the Ust-Luga fuel terminal on the Baltic Sea. The terminal, which processes 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, was hit by a drones during a four-hour assault where air defense units intercepted 52 drones. Ukraine's campaign has targeted 12 major oil refineries, three fuel terminals, and various gas and petrochemical plants. These attacks have contributed to a fuel shortage in several Russian regions, leading to authorities to introduce rationing and causing wholesale fuel prices to soar. While Vladimir Putin claimed that Russia has repaired 90 percent of the oil refineries damaged by Ukraine, some observers noted that the repeated strikes are pushing the industry toward a breaking point. The administration announced that the strikes are intended to raise the cost of the war for Russia.
