Shaun Green presents final findings of multiyear transit study for Atlanta Beltline light-rail system

Green stated that the transit service plan is currently between 10 and 20 percent designed. The study projects that the light-rail system could generate 4.2 million boardings per year. Green noted that this estimate is intentionally conservative and does not account for future land use growth and densification. The analysis identified a three-loop system where light rail would run both clockwise and counterclockwise along the full oval. It also included two smaller loops providing connectivity to downtown. The study whittled down 18 potential transit corridors to three for the northwest corridor, ultimately selecting the community-focused CSX rail corridor. Green noted that full implementation of the transit system would carry a price tag of roughly $3.5 billion, which includes $270 million for 42 vehicles and $210 million for support facilities. The study provides a complete vision for a permanent mobility alternative to the Beltline trails.
