Berkshire Hathaway Increases Alphabet Stake to $36.6 Billion, Making It Third Largest Equity Holding
Berkshire Hathaway significantly expanded its investment in Alphabet during the second quarter, increasing its stake by approximately $17 billion. The conglomerate now holds nearly 106 million shares of the tech giant, valued at roughly $36.6 billion. This move places Alphabet as the third largest equity holding in the portfolio, trailing only Apple and American Express. Under the leadership of new CEO Greg Abel, the company also boosted its holdings in the U.S. homebuilding sector, including a 44% increase in Delta Air Lines and a 30% increase in Lennar. The administration announced a $6.8 billion acquisition of Taylor Morrison. However, the portfolio also saw significant pruning, with the company slashing its Capital One Financial stake by 58% and reducing its Bank of America holdings. Investor Michael Burry expressed concern over the new CEO's spending habits, suggesting that Greg Abel may lack the patience for the "fat pitch" that defined Warren Buffett's strategy. While the cash pile remains large at $360 billion, Burry noted that Abel's early moves appear to be framing moves rather than definitive investments.
