Andy Beshear Criticizes Mitch McConnell for Failing to Provide Direct Health Updates to Kentucky Constituents
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has criticized Senator Mitch McConnell for failing to provide direct communication regarding his health following a prolonged hospitalization and rehabilitation period. After being hospitalized on June 14 due to a fall and mild pneumonia, McConnell was recently discharged from a rehabilitation center to continue his recovery at home. Despite his team's updates, Beshear noted that the senator has yet to make a direct verbal or video appearance to reassure the public of his capacity to serve. Beshear argued that the Republican-controlled Senate feels 'broken' because McConnell has not held his constituents accountable. The governor also faulted Senate Majority Leader John Thune for not taking more initiative to address the senator's absence. While McConnell's team reports he is maintaining an intensive physical therapy regimen and remains engaged with his staff, the senator has remained largely out of the public eye for nearly two months. Beshear urged McConnell to provide proof of his ability to continue his role, suggesting that the people of Kentucky are his ultimate boss.
