WalletHub analysis identifies Orlando as the top national city for retirees while ranking Tacoma among the worst in the United States.

A national study by WalletHub has ranked Orlando as the best city in the United States for retirees, followed by Miami and Tampa. The analysis evaluated 182 cities based on 45 metrics across four categories: affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care. Florida cities dominated the rankings, with four cities landing in the top 10 and seven in the top 25. Orlando ranked second nationally for affordability and 11th for health care. Miami placed sixth for activities, while Tampa ranked fifth nationally for recreation. Cape Coral also performed well, ranking 14th for affordability. In contrast, Tacoma finished 176th out of 182 cities, making it one of the worst places in the country to retire. While Tacoma was previously marketed as an affordable alternative to Seattle, it now ranks 175th for affordability. Seattle itself ranked 148th overall, with its high cost of living and in-home services offsetting its high scores in activities and quality of life. Boise, Idaho, finished 27th nationally, outperforming Tacoma by 149 spots.
