Unitree makes stock market debut and showcases humanoid robots at Beijing's World Robot Conference
Unitree has made its stock market debut, with shares jumping over 600 percent on opening. The company, a national champion in China, showcased its recognizable humanoid robots during the World Robot Conference in Beijing. While the firm's shares surged, the company noted in its prospectus that large-scale commercial deployment still faces uncertainty and risks that progress may fall short of expectations. Experts suggest that while China has a manufacturing advantage in robotics, the United States remains stronger in software and cutting-edge research. Beijing is currently mounting a whole-nation effort to dominate next-generation advanced robotics and physical AI, similar to its strategies for electric vehicles and drones. The Hangzhou Robot School, supported by the local government, aims to bridge expertise gaps to move toward real-world applications. Industry analysts note that while robots are beginning to appear in more everyday life in China, the industry still faces significant challenges in training the 'brain' of a robot to understand the world independently.
