Tony Kim Identifies AI Infrastructure and Space Economy as Key Drivers for Future Market Value
Tony Kim, head of the Global Technology team at BlackRock Fundamental Equities, reports that the artificial intelligence (AI) market is shifting toward physical infrastructure and compute layers. During a recent technology tour of Silicon Valley, Tony Kim observed that while software has faced some disruption, the primary value is now accruing to the physical foundations of AI, such as energy, chips, and data centers. The administration announced that data center spending is projected to reach over $10 trillion in the next five years, creating a world of scarcity for materials like copper and semiconductors. Tony Kim notes that Asian economies are currently outperforming the U.S. because they are aligned with this buildout. Furthermore, Tony Kim highlights the emerging space economy as a new frontier, where satellite constellations can provide both new data modalities and space-based compute to reduce terrestrial energy burdens. As AI matures, Tony Kim expects mass adoption of physical systems, including autonomous trucks and humanoid robots, within the next five years.
