The restaurant, which is the oldest in America, has been a fixture of the city's and a National Historic Landmark on the Freedom Trail. Joseph Milano, who owned the restaurant for over 50 years, is passing the torch to the Fertitta family. A spokesperson for the Fertitta family confirmed that the new owners plan to keep the restaurant as it is, preserving its longtime character and traditions. The Fertitta family is known for their ownership of the Houston Rockets, Golden Nutage Hotel and Casinos, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Union Oyster House first operated under its current name in 1913, and it has been recognized as North America's Best Landmark Restaurant by the World Culinary Awards for the third time. The new owners will continue to run the restaurant similar to how it has been run since its opening in the 19th Century.
