The body of 5-year-old Saylor Hayes was recovered in South Carolina waters after a two-day search.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office announced that agents from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources recovered the body of 5-year-old Saylor Hayes on Monday morning. The nonverbal girl was found in the water near the area where she was last seen. Saylor Hayes wandered away from a rental home in Hagley Estates in Pawleys Island on Sunday afternoon. She was last seen wearing a light blue bathing suit and a pink and white lanyard. The search involved multiple agencies, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. Search efforts included the use of drones, K-9 units, divers, and boats. Authorities also utilized Project Lifesaver tracking technology to locate the girl. Hundreds of local residents assisted in the search by canvassing properties and guarding docks. Sheriff Carter Weaver stated that Saylor Hayes and her family are from Virginia.
