Wake County Sheriff's Office recovers body of 16-year-old boy who drowned at Falls Lake
Wake County deputies responded to the 14600 block of Creedmoor Road near Sandling Beach around 2:20 p.m. on Monday to report a 16-year-old boy who had disappeared into the water. The boy was reported missing by a family friend who was out on the water at the time. First responders, including Wake County EMS, the Northern Wake Fire Department, and the Wake Forest Fire Department, conducted a search that lasted nearly five hours. The search involved rescue boats, drones, and the Wake County Mobile Command Unit. Park rangers also called for adult volunteers to help search the water before the official rescue teams arrived. The body of the 16-year-old boy was recovered just before 8 p.m. on Monday. While the search was underway, a portion of the beach was closed to the public. Witnesses described the water conditions as relatively calm, but noted that visibility was a challenge during the search.
